1938
Founder J.O. Weldon builds the first 500kW transmitter using the Doherty Amplifier
This technique made 500kW transmitters efficient and affordable in radio broadcasting, revolutionizing the technology in the U.S. and, ultimately, the world.
1950s
CEC builds 1 MW transmitter for Voice of America
Shortwave radio tells the story of freedom to millions of people around the world in their own language.
1960s
CEC establishes VLF site in Cutler, ME
CEC built the first high power VLF site that allows submarines to remain submerged indefinitely.
1970s
CEC’s high-power amplifiers further scientific discovery
Cutting edge particle physics experiments were made possible at prestigious U.S. national laboratories such as Los Alamos, Fermilab, Brookhaven and others.
1980s
CEC leads FM radio market throughout the decade
FM radio eliminated scratchy AM and became the frequency of choice — Steely Dan’s song, “No Static at All,” spoke to its popularity.
1990s
CEC technology chosen to power accurate time
CEC’s low frequency radio technology is adopted by Japan and Europe for wide area accurate time distribution.
2000s
CEC supplies hundreds of transmitters for HAARP
The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) conducts ionospheric research using more than 180 HF transmitters.
2010s
CEC chosen to modernize Deep Space Network
Jet Propulsion Laboratory chose CEC to build a series of 34-meter Beam Waveguide transmitters as part of the Deep Space Network Aperture Enhancement Project.
2020s
CEC continues to create the future
CEC’s developments in digital signal processing and solid state technology create more efficient and elegant solutions at high powers once thought not achievable with solid state amplifiers.
